QB FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

This is our FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions), If your question isn't here. feel free to email us or find us on Twitter

How do you submit a quote?

You can submit a quote by using the "Submit" link on the navigation menu at the top of QB.

Can you strip timestamps automatically?

You certainly can, You can also remove and replace messy characters automatically at the same time.
Just click on the "Strip it!" button on the submission page when you're submitting a quote. However, it does require JavaScript.
The following timestamp formats can be stripped: [hour:minute:second], hour:minute:second, [-hour:minute:second-], hour:minute.second
And that basically covers most timestamps, (Obviously, hour/minute/second doesn't need to be in order). Feel free to contact us if you have a different format.

Will my quote be accepted?

Yes, it will. Although if it's just spam, hasn't been stripped, or if they're just pointless. (Eg: <someone> hi) then it will most likely not be accepted.
This is already shown on QB's main site.

How can I rate a quote?

You can rate a quote simply by clicking on the '-' or '+' links next to them, '-' = bad and '+' = good.

Does QuoteBucket keep IP addresses?

When you submit a quote, your IP address will be shown next to it in the reviewer panel when our management review your quote.
The function to show IP addresses in the reviewer panel is used to prevent spam and block the spammers.
After they are reviewed and accepted into the database, the IP address won't be displayed again. We respect your privacy, thus IP addresses are NEVER displayed publicly.
If you have any privacy concerns, then see the privacy page.

Does anything get blocked upon submission?

Yes, QuoteBucket has an anti-spam feature. Quotes that contain either one of the following triggers; "http", "www", "href", "[url]", "<url>" will be automatically blocked on submission. This prevents spambots from automatically submitting quotes. However, URL's are still allowed aslong as they don't contain any of the triggers above.

Is there an eggdrop script to display quotes on IRC?

Yes, the QdbS tcl allows people to search, and display quotes in IRC channels. It also has a feature to announce latest quotes in the channel.

Who are the people behind Quotebucket?

QuoteBucket is a project by EScriptIRC. The QB design was done by Eck.
There is another team of people that manage QB daily, they're shown on our "Management" list on the main page.

Blueprint

If you're wondering how we managed to come up with a crazy "lopsided" design for QB, just have a look at this.

Is the source available to the public?

Yes, we use a slightly modified QdbS (That is, Quote Database System)
If you're interested in setting up your very own QDB feel free to go over to QdbS.org. QB contributes to the QdbS project and has also made our design for public use. You can find it here along with others.
